The Burmese is a shorthaired and elegant but muscular cat of foreign type. The glossy coat and colours is a distinct feature of the breed created by its slightly pointed coat pattern. A blunted wedge shaped head with ears following the outline of the face. Wide cheekbones and strong lower jaw. An active and friendly cat.
HEAD
Short wedge, wide at the cheek bones tapering to a blunt muzzle. Slightly rounded top of head.Wide at jaw hinge with a strong chin.
NOSE
Distinct nose break.
EARS
Medium in size, broad at base with slightly rounded tips. Set wide apart with outer line continuing the upper part of face. In profile ears have a slight forward tilt.
EYES
Large and set wide apart. The top line of the eyes is straight with slight oriental slant toward the nose, the lower line being rounded.Colour: Lustrous, all shades of yellow accepted.
NECK
Muscular yet elegant.
BODY
Medium length and size. Muscular and compact, heavier than its appearance indicates. Chest strong and rounded in profile, back straight.
LEGS
Rather slender and in proportion to the body.
PAWS
Oval, neat and small.
TAIL
Medium length, straight, not heavy at base, tapering only slightly to a rounded tip.
COAT Short, fine and close-lying with a satin-like texture.
COLOUR
Evenness is most desirable. Underparts will be paler. Face and ears may be slightly darker.Note: In young cats allowance should be made for faint barring and a paler colour.
